Grading for UI

Hi Corey and Anthony,

May I check if building a user interface is part of grading criteria? Or maybe even a bonus?

Because from what I understood on the requirements, we can demo based on the natural language queries through our query_graph function

Will we be disadvantaged if we never build a UI?

If we'll be disadvantaged, then I know some of the participants build a good looking front-end with React. If let's say I only use Gradio (which sadly very hard to style; so interface might not be as aesthetic as React), will I be disadvantaged over submissions that use React?

Thanks

You will not be be required to use a UI, but in some cases (not all) it might be advantageous to have one. That said, if you can clearly show live results in your notebooks, and can show visualizations of some sort, that would be great!

Okay, so if I can present visualization directly in my notebook, then TLDR UI is not part of the grading criteria, correct?

It's not a firm requirement! Looking forward to your submission!

    Hey Corey,

Appreciate the clarification! Just wanted to share where my concern is coming from!

In one of my previous hackathons, I was told upfront that UI wasn’t part of the grading, so I didn’t spend time making anything fancy—just focused on getting the functionality right. But when the results came out, I ended up losing points because some of the judges (who weren’t from the organizing team) expected a polished UI anyway. When I brought it up, all I got was a “sorry, we’ll improve next time,” which didn’t really help after the fact.

So yeah, I just don’t want to end up in that situation again :)

All the judges are aware of the criteria. We are looking as much for the use of tools and the logic of the app, showing the graph structure, etc.
